Day 30- My favorite books.

whew!!! last of the 30 day challenge! didn't think I'd get through it this fast, but I have had a lot of fun doing it!!!

ok, fav books....

The Bible, of course is at the top of my list!!!!

I enjoy reading L.M. Montgomery, Elizabeth Gaskill, James Herriot, and Jane Austen.

Other favs are Evangelists in Chains, Captains Courageous, The Ordinary Princess, Cheaper by the Dozen, Belles on Their Toes, and The Inheritance.

I'm also in the middle of 'Preparing to be His Helpmeet' by Debi Pearl - a must read, in my opinion!
and I'm about to start 'I Kissed Dating Goodbye' by Joshua Harris --- Sarah says it's a must read! :)

What's up at the Hale house this morning.....

Yeah, so I looked out the front window this morning and thought, 'I have to take a picture of this...no one will believe it if I don't....'
This is our driveway on a somewhat 'normal' Thursday for us...

our cars,
the inspector's truck,
two cars of people helping us,
three trucks with Chickens for us to process...
David's Truck(see where he had to park?),
a trailer with a chicken house on it,

oh, and there are chippers here as well....which includes caution cones!
Oh, and later this morning, our Aunt is coming for a visit, because she was driving past here, and Rachel might show up....and Velma's car isn't even in the picture.....
"It's a crazy life.....
.....but it's our life!!!

Elephants....

We have this old book of poems called, The best Loved Poems of the American People that I love to read! There are such gems in here!!! So, some of these are going to frequent my blog.... Hope you like them! (because if you don't....well, I'm going to post them anyway! :)

The Six Blind Men and the Elephant

It was six men on Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each my observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approached the elephant,
And, happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the elephant
Is nothing but a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried: "Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approached the animal,
And, happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the elephant
Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out his eager hand,
and felt about his knee:
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plan," quoth he;
" 'Tis clear enough the elephant
Is very like a tree."

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said" "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an elephant
Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the elephant
Is very like a rope!'

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeded stiff and strong,
Though each was rightly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

So, oft in theologic wars
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on is utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an elephant
Not one of them has seen!

The Stewart Cemetery Association Yearly Meeting

This post is definitely a "Welcome to Life at the Hales" sort of post.... :)
One of our little 'quirks' is that Daddy is the President of the Stewart Cemetery Association, which is a little graveyard about two miles up the road from us. We meet once a year and have a business meeting on the grounds with a potluck lunch afterwards!
It sounds boring, but it's actually really neat!
The older folks tell stories from years gone by....who married who, and what good food their mothers cooked! :)

Daddy opening the meeting

Mr. Wayne Stewart giving the devotional. It was one of his great-great-grandfathers that originally dedicated the land for the cemetery...the oldest known grave in Hunt County!!!

Mr. Truman Beesinger telling his family history in this area...he thinks he had the most relatives/ancestors burried here!

Mr. Mike Massey giving the Secretary/Treasurer's report

Still miss him!!!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

And Uncle Roma and Aunt Reba!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Took this picture with Deb and Jon S. in mind....there are several graves of Confederate Veterans!!! :)

Every year I walk around and look at the graves and ponder what these peoples lives might have been like, doing the math to see how old they lived to be, were they Christians, I wonder?
The oldest grave in the whole cemetery is actually unmarked, but it belongs to young child, that died not long after they settled this area...the poor Mother...what was she like? was she my age? they married young, back then......?
I have heard that 'Mother' is one of the sweeetest names on earth.....
This isn't the Mother of the oldest grave, but this gravestone has always intrigued me. She only lived 25 years, yet she was a Mother to someone...........

And so, I shall close with a poem that is simply titled:

Motherhood

Mary, the Christ long slain, passed silently,
Following the children joyously astir
Under the cedrus and the olive tre,
Pausing to let their laughter float to her-
Each voice an echo of a voice more dear,
She saw a little Christ in every face.

Then came another woman gliding near
To watch the tender life which filled the place.
And Mary sought the woman's hand and spoke:
"I know thee not, yet know thy memory tossed
With all a thousand dreams their eyes evoke
Who bring to thee a child beloved and lost.

"I, too, have rocked my little One.
And He was fair!
Oh, fairer than the fairest sun,
And, like its rays through amber spun,
His sun-bright hair.
Still I can see it shine and shine."
"Even so," the woman said, "was mine."

"His ways were ever darling ways"-
And Mary smiled-
"So soft, so clinging! Glad relays
Of love were all His precious days.
My little Child!
My vanished star! My music fled!"
"Even so was mine," the woman said.

And Mary whispered: "Tell me, thou,
Of thine." And she:
"Oh, mine was rosy as a bough
Blooming with roses, sent, somehow,
To bloom for me!
His balmy fingers left a thrill
Deep in my breast that warms me still."

Then she gazed down some wilder, darker hour,
And said, when Mary questioned, knowing not:
"Who art thou, mother of so sweet a flower?" -
"I'm the mother of Iscariot."
